Review of Aerobed Comforter Bed

Aerobed Comforter BedWhat do you do when you have overnight guests, or when kids visit for a sleepover? If you have a good convertible couch that's comfortable, then you have no problem. But our couch was made for sitting in comfort, but it's a genuine back-killer when one sleeps on it.

Air beds seem to be the perfect solution, and luckily the quality of these has improved quite a bit over the last couple of decades. No longer do we have to deal with a balky and ineffective foot pump, except on the 'bargain basement' specials, which might last you a weekend... if you're lucky. For the most part, quality has greatly improved on the recognizable brand names.

The AeroBed Comforter Bed is a good product that comes with an AC pump and duffel bag for easy storage, and it does roll up quite compactly. But it does many competing products one step better: it comes with a snug comforter cover encasing the mattress, a machine-washable sleeping solution, so there's no need for scrambling for additional bedding ("Where are those sheets!") at the last minute. And that's what took it from a 4-star to a 5-star product in my personal opinion!

It inflates in just about a minute, and has a handy valve that allows it to deflate in 15 or 20 seconds. Hint: inflate it to about 90-95% capacity, and it will be more comfortable.

And though this system has a "the puncture-resistant heavy gauge, non-allergenic PVC vinyl mattress," it does not share space well with certain kids' toys, namely certain sharp-edged Lego or Bionicle pieces, which could probably puncture the tires of a new SUV. These toy parts seem to find their way under the sturdy mattress, and then you'll hear the steady hissing of a slow-to-medium leak.

So if one of these is going to be used with kids in mind, take the time to pick up a handy leak repair kit, such as SportsStuff PVC Repair Kit, Sevylor Seam Seal Vinyl Repair Adhesive or Academy Broadway #80800 Inflatable Repair Kit. AeroBed sells their own repair kit, but I didn't find it here. Trust me on this about the repair kit - you'll be glad that you picked up this small bit of insurance.

Think of this as a "complete sleeping solution" for when company arrives, be they children or adults.
